NRI, OCI or PIO — you're covered

Indian life insurers welcome all three categories of the global Indian family. The paperwork differs slightly — we handle that.

Non-Resident Indian (NRI)

An Indian citizen who has moved abroad for six months or more — employment, business, education or residence. Holds an Indian passport.

Overseas Citizen of India (OCI)

A person of Indian origin holding foreign citizenship with OCI status — free to live, work and invest in India. Insurable with an OCI card copy.

Person of Indian Origin (PIO)

A foreign citizen with Indian origin or ancestry. PIOs can buy Indian life insurance with proof of origin — we guide the paperwork end to end.

Why global Indians buy life insurance in India

For families with roots in India, an Indian life policy is protection and a tax-efficient rupee asset.

01

Rupee cover for rupee responsibilities

Parents, property, home loans, children's education in India — your Indian commitments are in rupees. Claim proceeds are paid to your family here.

02

Significantly lower premiums

Term cover from Indian insurers typically costs a fraction of comparable cover bought in the US, UK or GCC — the same budget buys a larger safety net.

03

India's growth, professionally regulated

A disciplined rupee allocation in an IRDAI-regulated industry with claims-paid ratios above 99% at leading insurers.

04

Serious tax efficiency

Premiums may qualify for deduction under Section 123 of the Income-tax Act, 2025 (earlier Sec. 80C; old tax regime only) against Indian income, and eligible maturity and death benefits may be tax-exempt under the applicable provision (earlier Sec. 10(10D)). Individual life premiums currently attract 0% GST. DTAA relief can prevent double taxation — loop in your CA for your country.

05

Estate planning & MWPA

Cover under the Married Women's Property Act ring-fences proceeds for spouse and children — beyond business creditors. Essential for NRI entrepreneurs.

06

Repatriation-friendly & FEMA-compliant

Pay from NRE / NRO / FCNR or in foreign currency. Eligible benefits are repatriable under FEMA in proportion to premiums paid from foreign sources.

Questions global Indians ask us

Do I need to visit India to buy a policy?

No. Proposal, verification, medicals and payment can be completed from your country of residence. Many clients also wrap it during a planned India visit.

What if there is no medical facility in my country?

Complete medicals at a reputed local diagnostic centre; eligible high-value cases are reimbursed up to ₹60,000 against bills. In the GCC, insurer networks often handle everything at no cost to you.

Can my family repatriate the claim amount abroad?

Under FEMA, benefits are repatriable in proportion to premiums paid from NRE / foreign-currency sources. We structure the premium routing at purchase so there is no friction later.

What happens at claim time if my family is in India?

We guide the nominee through the document kit, forms and follow-ups with the insurer — on call, WhatsApp and this website. We do not provide physical or on-site claim visits.

Are documents in Arabic, French or another language acceptable?

Yes — supporting documents in a foreign language need a vernacular self-declaration alongside. We prepare it for you.

Is the premium taxed twice — in India and my resident country?

Individual life premiums currently attract 0% GST in India. India's DTAA network helps prevent double taxation on policy benefits. For specific tax advice we loop in your CA — we are advisors, not tax consultants.

One WhatsApp. A complete India protection plan.

Tell us where you live, what you earn and who you're protecting — we send a no-pressure plan across time zones, usually within a day.
